Font mapping and virtual fonts in general

A few miscellaneous thoughts, largely brought on from reading
Richard Bringhurst and working with "art" typography a bit more.

VFs can be thought of, among other things, as keyboard map files.
As such, they can be considered document-dependent in some cases.
The VF search path for a device driver should begin with the
current directory.

One of the more useful VF manipulation tools would be an
on-screen VF editor which would allow manually assigning
characters or character combinations to different slots, using
direct manipulation to position accents, affect kerning pairs
