[XeTeX] xetex can't find font

Put the font directories of TeX into your system's fonts service, i.e., libfontconfig. This is controlled by files like fonts.conf or ~ /.fonts.conf. Then run (sudo) fc-cache (-v), check with fc-list/fc-match if the fonts are known now, and run xetex again.

Xdvipdfmx certainly is capable of using kpsewhich, a TeX service, but XeTeX needs much more than just a file name (which comes from a MAP file that maps TeX font names to file names and font encodings). Similar for LuaTeX.
