i am reminded of the poor, unfortunate "guillemot" pace adobe ...

it'll go the way of its cousin, the great awk, you mark my words...

the sad thing is there are french people who believe that it's the way
native english speakers write it. how they allowed the spelling to
get into iso standards i can't imagine.

as far as i can determine, it has not (yet) gotten into iso standards.
adobe may be a trend-setter, but in this they have (so far) not
managed to spread their ignorance.

the unicode description clearly uses only "guillemet", and the copy
i have of iso 10646 avoids the whole matter by referring to them as
"(left|right) pointing (double) angle quotation mark"s.
