MacTeX Installation fails on M1 Mac

Martin,

I suggest two things:

a) download and install BasicTeX from the MacTeX site. This is much smaller
and won't interfere with the full MacTeX, which you can install later after this
one is working.

b) Write me directly at koch at uoregon.edu <mailto:koch at uoregon.edu> so I can ask appropriate 
debugging questions.
