Hallo Reinhard —

when you uncompress the installer package you downloaded
(install-tl.zip), you'll find the following files:

   tlpkg/installer/tar.exe
   tlpkg/installer/xz/xz.exe

If you prefer the two-step approach, invoke

   xz --decompress tlperl.windows.<revision>.tar.xz

No no ! It is not that I prefer the two-step approach, it is what Denis needs — he needs to (be able to) get at the raw .xz file so that he can compare its MD5 checksum with that quoted by Nelson —

In fact, I didn't encounter any problems except that I couldn't get
the intermediate file tlperl.windows.r69939.tar for which Nelson gave
the checksum md5sum that I wanted to check on the student's
computer.
